PMKUSUM

PM-KUSUM (Component C)
Distributed Solar for Rural India

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) is India’s flagship program to decentralise solar generation and strengthen rural power distribution. It enables local farmers, cooperatives, and DISCOMs to generate and consume power at the 11 kV feeder level, reducing transmission losses and improving rural grid reliability.

Aright is among the early private developers to commission multi-site projects under Component C, delivering ~48 MWac / ~59 MWdc across 7 locations in Bikaner and Phalodi. Sixteen power purchase agreements (PPAs) were executed with JdVVNL, with all sites commissioned in July 2025.

Why PM-KUSUM Matters

Distributed solar is essential to India’s next phase of energy transition. It strengthens rural resilience, reduces dependence on long-haul transmission, and ensures that agricultural feeders are powered by clean, locally produced energy. Component C directly addresses the twin goals of energy access and grid stability—a foundation for equitable, low-carbon growth.

Decentralised Generation

Lower losses & reduced grid congestion

Rural Economic Benefit

Land leases and local jobs

Power reliability

Daytime solar supply for irrigation & village loads

From Rajasthan’s Feeders to
India’s Future Grid

The PM-KUSUM program demonstrates how distributed solar can strengthen India’s rural grid. Building on this foundation, Aright is engaging with Rajasthan’s state utilities and agencies to explore co-located Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at the feeder level. These discussions aim to pilot models that extend solar’s benefits into evening hours and improve local grid stability.
